Old St. Andrew's School and the Church of Ascension (AHA & UNESCO Awardee)

Description
Architectural & Cultural Heritage Conservation Awardees Open House
In partnership with URA

The URA Architectural Heritage Awards (AHA) was launched in 1995 to honour owners, developers, architects, engineers and contractors who have displayed the highest standards in conserving and restoring heritage buildings in Singapore. The UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation were established in 2000 to recognize and encourage private efforts and public-private initiatives in successfully restoring structures of heritage value in the region.

In partnership with URA, selected awardees would be conducting guided tours during the festival for public to understand the architecture and history of the buildings, and the restoration effort behind these buildings.

Old St. Andrew's School and the Church of Ascension (AHA & UNESCO awardee)

The Old St Andrew’s School was designed by Frank Brewer in 1939 and was said to be one of his finest and largest completed work in Singapore. The restoration project received the 2006 Architectural Heritage Award and the Honorable Mention in the 2007 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award.

The Church of the Ascension was designed by Ho Kwong Yew & Sons in 1959 and completed in 1962, this place of worship is characterised by a bold, symmetrical front facade with clean and simple lines of the Modern style. From afar, its most distinctive feature is its modern interpretation of the traditional church steeple. The restoration project received the 2006 Architectural Heritage Award.
